Squeak

Once in a while I get a squeaking noise in my side-to-side eyes.  I typically tear them out and re-seat them to get rid of it.  But... does anyone know WHY they might squeak in the first place?

I had an eye squeek problem and found it was the metal bolt against the urethane eye. I waxed the bolt threads good and the squeek was gone. I bet wood eyes squeek even more.

Thank you for the suggestion! What kind of wax is best? Brand?

  3. Kenny, I had that problem and what I do is roll up a small piece of fine sandpaper, and sand the hole through the eye very smooth on the inside.. It seems to move much better, and I don't get any squeaking. Montanadan

  4. I use brass tube in the eye and then the bolt will be in the brass tube and will not rub on the urethane eye.

For a variety of craft applications I use just plain white candle or parafin wax. It sticks well to just about anything when heated a little.
