Squeak
Once in a while I get a squeaking noise in my side-to-side eyes. I typically tear them out and re-seat them to get rid of it. But... does anyone know WHY they might squeak in the first place?
I had an eye squeek problem and found it was the metal bolt against the urethane eye. I waxed the bolt threads good and the squeek was gone. I bet wood eyes squeek even more. Brian
Kenny, I had that problem and what I do is roll up a small piece of fine sandpaper, and sand the hole through the eye very smooth on the inside.. It seems to move much better, and I don't get any squeaking. Montanadan

Thank you for the suggestion! What kind of wax is best? Brand?

ReplyDeleteI use brass tube in the eye and then the bolt will be in the brass tube and will not rub on the urethane eye.
ReplyDeleteFor a variety of craft applications I use just plain white candle or parafin wax. It sticks well to just about anything when heated a little.
