Flat on his face

Uncle Earl was painted with my new paint regimen. I've switched from acrylic to latex. Makes a huge difference. Even the flattest acrylic I've used still puts a slight shine on the figure. Flat latex is really flat. As in flat tire. Flat as a pancake. Fully and totally flat. Yet it has an inexplicable glow. I'll paint my figures this way from now on.

Just wondering how latex will hold up? Does it bond as good as acryllic? Will it chip?

  2. Of course, only time will tell. But I usually paint four coats (one primer, three color coats) before I install the mechanics. So the heads get manhandled and bumped as I do that. The latex paint has held up as well as the acrylic throughout the building process. As with acrylic, I've only had a couple small touch-ups to attend to. I plan to add a protective matte finish to the hands, which tend to swing freely and get bumped. The heads will not get that protective finish because even the flattest matte finishes still add back shine and removes that lovely mysterious glow. I expect the heads are less apt to get hurt. However, if a head is accidentally dropped, the paint will likely chip whether it's acrylic or latex.
